Day 1, July 12

We're in France!

We've had a wonderful but exhausting day.

We arrived at Charles de  Gaulle AIrport at 8:30 AM, ran across the terminal, took a train, ran across more of the terminal, went through both French customs and security all in less than one hour and just made our 9:35 flight to Toulouse.

Arrived in Toulouse around 11 AM,  collected our bags, and rental car, and were on the road to Arreau by noon.

After an attempt to have lunch in the village of Carbone (the restaurrant that Joni had researched was closed for the first two weeks of July), we drove on to Arreau, which is about 100 km south of Toulouse deep in the middle of the Pyrenees.

Arriving around 2 pm, we had lunch at Le Crepe d'Aure.  As the name implies, we had crepes, or they called the gallettes, stufffed with mushrooms, cheese, potatoes, etc.  Yummy and amazingly light...the perfect lunch for exhaused travellers.

We checked into the Hotel d'Angleterre; this is the 6th time in our 8 visits to France at this hotel, so obviously we love it.  Joni unpacked, but I immediately turned on the TV to watch today's coverage of the Tourr de France, but I fell asleep immediately.

Our catnaps lasted about 3 hours, and we got up around 7, showered, put on clean clothes, and headed down to the dining room.  The food here is spectacular, and if anything it's improved.  Dinner and breakfast are included in our room price, so we usually just have the set menu and we are rarely disappointed.  Tonight we had gazpacho, lamb stew, and apples-3-ways, topped off with coffee.  Yummy.

After dinner we took a wak about the village and just took in the spectacular scenery of this picturesque village.  What a spot!
